| Biography: | Elizabeth Wetherell was the pen name used by Susan Bogert Warner (1819-1885), an American author. Very popular, she wrote thirty novels under this name, including her most successful book, The Wide, Wide World (1850). Her books have gone in and out of favor over the years, being variously praised as excellent depictions of rural American life, admired for their moral teachings, and dismissed as too sentimental. |
