Biography: Amelia Edith Barr was born in England in 1831 but lived most of her adult life in America. She began her literary career writing religious articles, but by the early 1890s was achieving success as a romance novelist in New York. Over 50 years, she published more than 50 novels and novellas, as well as short stories, poems and essays.
