Camille (La Dame aux Camilias)
by Alexandre Dumas

This famous story of a courtesan and her love affair is partly autobiographical, reflecting the author's own relationship with real-life paramour Marie Duplessis. Countless versions of The Lady of the Camellias, or Camille, have been performed in theatres worldwide since its stage debut in Paris in 1852. The story created such a sensation that it also inspired Verdi's celebrated opera La Traviata.
