Biography: American author Addison Irving Bacheller (1859-1950) made his mark on the world of journalism by founding the first modern newspaper syndicate in the United States, bringing authors like Joseph Conrad, Rudyard Kipling, and Stephen Crane to the reading public through serials. He also wrote novels, publishing his first, The Master Of Silence in 1892. In addition to writing a number of novels, Bacheller continued with journalism throughout his life, serving as a war correspondent in World War I.
